River Mountain Retreat is a wellness-focused, nature-immersive retreat destination offering experiences designed to foster rest, connection, and personal growth. The ideal GM candidate brings both strong operational management experience and an understanding of wellness hospitality.
The GM is responsible for the overall success, profitability, reputation, and guest experience of the entire property. This is a highly autonomous role that combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational oversight in a rural, multifaceted resort environment.
The GM position is a year-round, residential role.
Essential Abilities and Qualities:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
*Oversee all operations and seamless execution across 150 acre property.
*Collaborate with retreat facilitators to maintain program flow and uphold a restorative atmosphere.
*Operationally support and execute on retreat programming and group BEO’s.
*Manage confirmed reservations, including guest communication, important details, and payments within hotel reservation software.
*Foster a community-centered environment for guests, facilitators, and staff.
*Ensure a guest experience that is not only operationally excellent but emotionally attuned—anticipating needs, supporting personal retreat journeys, and maintaining a calm, grounded presence.
*Work closely with the CEO and Marketing Director on long-term planning, new business leads, property tours, and continued enhancement of the guest experience.
*Lead the management of RM staff to increase profitability and guest satisfaction.
*Oversee the interviewing, hiring, training, work direction, and performance management of all team members.
*Oversee the activities of all team members in order to ensure adherence to retreat policies and procedures.
*Oversee annual salary / performance reviews and ensure that all staff wages follow federal, state, and local guidelines.
*Identify and assess risk in RM operations and respond appropriately.
*Ensure safety, legal, and emergency standards.
Financial Forecasting and Development:
*Manage to P&L and operational efficiency metrics.
*Develop and refine SOPs across all departments to ensure consistency and high performance.
*Oversee procurement, inventory management, and vendor relationships.
*Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development pathways for staff.
*Shape a positive, wellness-aligned workplace culture that encourages growth and high performance.
*Manage guest requests, feedback, and reviews to ensure guests are satisfied with RM’s services and accommodations.
*Ensure systems and procedures are in place and followed for guest safety and security.
Ongoing Other Duties as Assigned:
*Fill in for vacant shifts as needed.
*Lead and manage on-site sales opportunities and property tours.
*Fully embrace the rhythm of retreat life by being on-property and actively leading during weekends, retreats, and peak periods when guests are most present and experiences matter most.
*Live on-site and stay overnight most nights; personally manage or rigorously oversee 24/7 coverage for emergency response.
Skills, Educational Background, and Experience:
*Previous experience as a hotel or retreat GM, or Assistant GM, is highly preferred.
*2+ years of management or supervisory experience required.
*Experience in all phases of hotel or retreat management, including human resources, food and beverage, budget management, front desk operations, housekeeping, and facilities maintenance.
*Tech proficiency using Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, property management systems (e.g., Cloudbeds, Opera, ResortSuite), and quick to master new software and digital platforms essential to modern retreat operations.
*Must possess leadership skills to motivate and train staff to ensure accomplishment of goals. Must have solid long-range planning and development skills.
*Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Excellent decision maker. *Ability to work independently.
*Superior customer service skills.
*Able to work a flexible schedule.
Compensation and Benefits:
